Adoration
Adoration Director: Atom Egoyan

Atom Egoyan is the film laureate of Canada, a singular cinema artist who brings a deeply humanistic yet singularly Canadian sensibility to his intimate film works. His latest film, ADORATION, which won the Best Canadian Feature prize at the Toronto International
Film Festival, is another in his explorations of the human condition and the deep need for connection and sense of purpose.

In this elegant chamber work that simmers with provocative ideas, a high-school French class is asked to translate a news article about a terrorist who plants a bomb in his pregnant girlfriend's luggage. This stimulates a young man named Simon, who starts digging into his own family's murky past, which includes the shocking death of both of his parents. To what degree is the news story a reflection of the boy's actual past or testament to his wildly inventive imagination?.

The tension between reality and possibility creates a conflict of conscience for the young man, his struggling uncle (played by Canadian heartthrob Scott Speedman) and his strict grandfather. And what is the role of the mysterious French teacher who has her own set of secrets?
