Works of Swedish master Ingmar Bergman

Ingmar Bergman

Ingmar Bergman was born in Uppsala 1918, north of Stockholm, in the central part of Sweden. Bergman is the most well-known and most acclaimed Swedish director since Mauritz Stiller and Victor Sjöström. He started his career working with the University theater in the late 30's. He has throughout his career always kept coming back to the stage, between his filmmaking.

Considered as one of the few „geniuses“ in the motion picture industry, he has received most of the awards existing today. For the films „The Virgin Spring“ (1960), „Through a Glass Darkly“ (1961) and „Cries and Whispers“  (1973) he received Oscars for Best Foreign Feature.

Through the years, his films have become increasingly deeper, and more probing into the human psychology and human emotions, often his films have been so intense as to shock the audience.
